Last April, Kalinix had the privilege to participate in the International Congress “Sleep and Breathing 2023” organized by the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS). This prestigious event provided an excellent opportunity to present worldwide the results of this revolutionary treatment in the field of sleep medicine.
The Kalinix team presented two abstracts with results to date for Kalinix Day and Kalinix Night treatments. These publications highlighted the benefits of Kalinix as a smart, portable and non-invasive alternative for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Summary of the study “Kalinix® in the daytime treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)”:
This study addressed the challenge of OSA patients who fail to adapt to traditional continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. Kalinix was presented as a novel solution by delivering external therapeutic electrical waves to the patient's upper airway in short sessions throughout the day.
The results were encouraging, as a significant improvement in multiple key parameters was observed. Of the 17 participating patients, 94% experienced a reduction in apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and obstructive desaturation index. In addition, 65% showed improvement in the saturation time index below 90% (CT90), with an average reduction of 41%.
The apnea and hypopnea indices also benefited, with 82% and 76% improvement, respectively. As for the Epworth test, used to measure daytime sleepiness, 80% of patients demonstrated a 52% improvement. Importantly, all participants tolerated the treatment without discomfort or adverse effects, experiencing a reduction in snoring and a general feeling of greater restfulness.
The conclusions of the study supported the use of the Kalinix daytime device as an effective option to improve apnea and desaturation without the need for nocturnal devices. Its use was suggested in all patients, especially in those who do not adapt to traditional OSA treatments, such as CPAP, as well as in cases in which the use of such treatments is abandoned or as adjunctive therapy.
